07 Mar 5 Ways to Support Hormone Balance
For men, this may look like thinning hair, moodiness, low libido, low muscle tone and brain fog. Women may experience irregular periods, repeat miscarriages, feelings of stress or anxiety, and night sweats. While others may be eating healthy and exercising but just can’t seem to drop the extra weight, they may be fatigued throughout the day and lacking energy in the morning or experience high cholesterol and blood pressure.

Hormones are the body’s messengers, and they are responsible for carrying out many, many processes in our bodies. But occasionally our receptors get blocked due to lifestyle choices and environmental factors, as well as our age and the dwindling production of many hormones and so our hormones become imbalanced. This results in the above-mentioned symptoms, among others.
But there’s good news! We have experience in overcoming these nagging side effects! A few super easy jumpstart ideas to consider when trying to get back on track can include…
- Increase your daily fiber intake. This helps flush out excess hormones and balances cholesterol (a precursor to our hormone production). Ground flaxseed is a great go-to! Chia seeds and pumpkin seeds are also wonderful. Check out our earlier blog post for Quick and Easy Flaxseed balls.
- Eat enough protein throughout the day. Some of your hormones are built from proteins called Peptide Hormones. It is recommended that women consume around 46g of protein daily, while men require 56g of protein.
- Swap out inflammatory oils (like Canola and Vegetable). These can interfere with hormone receptors and create a lot of trouble. Try coconut oil and avocado oil instead! Including high quality natural fats in your diet may help reduce insulin resistance and appetite.
- Eat the RAINBOW. Colored vegetables contain phytonutrients which help balance hormones naturally and give the liver a gentle detox so it can be most effective. Here is a great family favorite customizable rainbow recipe.
- Take care of your gut health. One of the biggest ways I support my clients when they have hormone dysregulation as a core imbalance is by helping to get their gut to support normal body processes of these all important signalers AND by creating balance in the endocrine system. Bacterial balance is crucial for keeping estrogen dominance at bay, reducing cortisol and even overcoming weight loss resistance.
